Personal Profile
Alex was born in the industrial north of England. In his
early twenties he had decided that he had outgrown his small
town and set off to discover the world. His voyage of discovery
lead him to far flung places and amazing lessons were learned.
But it was when he discovered sailing that he became in touch
with his inner self and his relationship to the natural world
was formed.
Choosing New Zealand as his next voyage of discovery, he
delved inside, discovering a whole new world within the realms
of meditation. Continuing his love affair with the ocean using
the medium of surfing, the physical and spiritual aspects
of yoga was a natural progression that has allowed his personal
development, to lead him to a place of wellbeing and happiness.

Yoga History
1998-Alex’s first taste of yoga was with
the Auckland school of yoga, taking part in a 3 month introduction
to yoga course.
2000-Whilst living on the west coast of Auckland,
Alex was a regular practicioner of Hatha Yoga at the Aio Wira centre
of well-being.
2002- Alex discovered the practice of Iyengar Yoga,
being drawn to the precision and physical form of this practice.
Attending classes with Mathew Smart in Hamilton and Local Iyenger
teachers. This became the basis of Alex’s practice.
2005- Enrolled with the New Zealand teaching provider
IYTA.
Studying for 18 months by correspondance, this in depth investigation
into the many aspects of yoga allowed him to explore the aspects
of yoga that resonated deeply with him. Focusing his research paper
on ‘fluid yoga’, he completed his studies August 2006.
Becoming an IYTA accredited teacher early 2007.
2007- Became president of the Taranaki arm of the
International Yoga Teachers Association.
Fluid Yoga
Through his enquiry into the meditative and fluid aspects of yoga.
Alex discovered the Vinyasa style of yoga. Taught by the Celebrated
Yogi Krishnamacharya. This method links the movement of the body
with the breath, producing a meditative and fluid practice, allowing
the practicioner to feel a deep sense of connection of mind and
body.
